![]() Notes from Bukhari: Part I | Part II

It is related from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (peace be upon him), said, “The deen [religion] is ease. Whoever makes the deen too hard for himself will be overpowered, so direct yourselves to what is right, follow a middle course, accept the good news of the reward for right action, and seek help... ![]() In a previous post, I compiled some of my favorite gems from Imam ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah (swt) have mercy on him). Imam ibn al-Jawzi, who is often confused with ibn al-Qayyim, is yet another scholar who has popular works on the heart and soul. Outside of books on purification, ibn al-Jawzi wrote extensively on tafsir (exegesis), fiqh (jurisprudence), and hadith (prophetic narrations). He was born in 1114CE in Baghdad. After his father passed away, he was under the care of his mother and aunt. They brought him to the masjid to learn from the scholars at the tender age... Read more... |

A father cannot give a better gift to his son than a good education. (Tirmidhi)
After being married for 10 years and then a hospital stay of close to 138 days, we were blessed with two beautiful baby girls. That was one year after we clung to the Kaaba and prayed for pious offspring. Little did we know the challenges of raising “Pious Offspring”!
My wife and I have both been involved in the... Read more... |

A Piece of Serenity. 06 May 2012 20:58 pm You can learn so much about yourself, life, and God by observing your children. Today my 38 month old spilled something again after spilling the same thing this morning. He didn’t want me to be mad, so he starts cleaning it up and saying, “I clean it. I clean it.” Then when he saw that [...] Read more... |

What is Your Heart Looking at? Yasmin Mogahed | A Life of Submission. A Piece of Serenity. 29 Apr 2012 10:01 am Often what makes us fall into despair is focusing on the wrong things. For example, if we’ve sinned, we focus on the sin, rather than the Most Merciful. If we’re broken, we focus on the break instead of Al Jabbar, the One who mends. If we are in pain, we focus on the pain itself, [...] Read more... |

The Dambulla Mosque Debacle and The Rise of The Minority Extremist MuslimMatters.org 25 Apr 2012 22:08 pm
By Shaahima Fahim
MM Correspondent covering Sri Lanka and the GCC
The city of Dambulla in Sri Lanka, more known for its representation in tourism brochures as a registered heritage destination for culturally-inclined tourists to the island, made headlines of a less-idyllic nature on the afternoon of Friday the 20th of April – when Buddhist monks led a 2000-strong protest against a local mosque. Intimidation in the form of marching picket-wielders, fire-bombs being hurled and emotionally-driven chants demanding the demolition of Masjidul Khaira led to the cancellation of Jumaah prayers at the masjid, the evacuation of worshipers and effective cordoning off of...
